IN A NATIONS' Cup full of upsets, with strong resurgences by lower
ranked Meydan superleague teams USA and the Netherlands, Ireland
finished equal seventh with Switzerland at Rotterdam this afternoon
(Friday).
While Shane Breen and Denis Lynch delivered clears in rounds one and two
respectively it was not enough to maintain Ireland's good form to date
in the series and Ireland have now slipped to sixth in the Meydan table, one
place above the relegation zone.
Afterwards Team Manager Robert Splaine said: "We have slipped a bit on
the table after today's result, but I have a few cards still to
play and I hope they're the right ones. The pressure will get intense
now in the superleague with back-to-back shows in Falsterbo and Aachen
next in the series."
The Netherlands, who had poor outings in the first three legs of the
Meydan Series, bounced back today in front of the home crowd to claim
third place, while the US team finished first on a zero score after
a string of disappointing results in the Superleague. France, who won
the first three Meydan competitions of the series, could only manage
an equal fifth place result at Rotterdam today.
The 2010 Meydan Superleague series, which features the world's ten
best teams competing at the world's top eight show jumping venues,
concludes at the Dublin Horse Show in August. Ireland is currently
sixth in the league table after today's result.
