CORK'S Shane Sweetnam finished fifth in tonight's (Sunday) World Cup Qualifier Grand Prix at Spruce Meadows in western Canada, conceding victory to veteran American rider Rich Fellers and Harry and Mollie Chapman's celebrated Irish-bred Cruising stallion 'Flexible'.
Sweetnam, riding Spy Coast Farm's Darco stallion 'Amaretto Darco', was one of nine through to the jump-off in the 24-strong class, but finished almost four seconds off the pace of the 51 year-old American, who claimed the 20,000 dollar prize pot and valuable World Cup ranking points.
Ireland's Jennifer Crooks, who had taken second place in Saturday's big jump-off class at the four-star Calgary venue, tonight finished ninth in the Grand Prix with Olivia Cox-Fill's Guidam mare 'SF Uryadi', after dislodging a single fence in the jump-off round.
