SWEETNAM FOURTH IN NETHERLANDS GRAND PRIX

(11 Jul 2010)

TWENTY-nine year-old Irish rider Shane Sweetnam took fourth place in this afternoon's (Sunday) four-star Grand Prix at Geesteren in the Netherlands with the bay stallion 'Amaretto d'Arco', and collected 8,000 euro in prize money.

Cork-born Sweetnam, who is normally based in Florida, had no jumping errors in the first round but picked up a time fault, qualifying him for the second round, in which 13 of the 49 starters took part.

Knowing that he could not win the competition against zero-score combinations, Sweetnam opted for another careful round and returned home with no further faults on the board to claim fourth overall.

The competition was won by Australia's James Paterson-Robinson, who received a Volvo 70 car for his first prize.
