IRISH riders accounted for another two top five places at the World Cup show in Bordeaux today (Sunday), with Denis Lynch taking the runner-up position in the Accumulator class with 'Lacroix', and Jessica Kurten finishing fifth in the final round of the Ladies' competition, the Prix des Amazones.
Lynch failed by under a second to catch Australian winner Edwina Alexander on time, while Kurten had a fence down in the jump-off round, with Belgium's Gudrun Patteet taking the title on a double clear round.
However, Ireland's overall tally at the five-star show was impressive, with Lynch winning the opening jump-off class on 'All Inclusive', and adding a third place in the speed class with 'Upsilon d'Ocquier'. Jessica Kurten was the winner of the second round of the Ladies' Competition on the ten year-old mare 'Fashion' on Saturday.
Billy Twomey added to Irish ribbons with an impressive fourth place in the World Cup competition last night, aboard the bay stallion 'Je t'Aime Flamenco', a result that pushed him up to third in the Rolex World Cup rankings.
None of the Irish trio managed to make it through to the jump-off round in today's Bordeaux Grand Prix, however, each dropping a pole first time out, and Kurten adding a single time fault. Twomey finished best of the Irish with 'Tinka's Serenade', in 13th place. The Grand Prix was won by Brazil's Alvaro de Miranda and 'AD Ashleigh Drossel Dan'.
