MOLONEY WINS FRENCH GRAND PRIX AFTER SUCCESSFUL WEEK

(27 Mar 2011)

IRELAND'S Eddie Moloney rounded off a successful week in the south of France when he streaked home with well over two seconds in hand to win the Vidauban Grand Prix this afternoon (Sunday) on his own nine year-old Irish-bred gelding 'Slieveanorra'.

Beating British challenger Graham Lovegrove, the Kilkenny rider picked up 6,000 euro for his win in the eight horse jump-off, adding to his prize money from other successes in the last three days.

Earlier this morning Moloney, who is reigning Irish National Show Jumping Champion, had a win in the 1m35 speed class with Tom McGurk's mare 'Foxy Cleopatra', and yesterday took a third place with John McDonald's Irish-bred gelding 'Chatsworth Dan'.

On Friday, the 34 year-old piloted his own chestnut gelding 'Slieveanorra' in the 1m50 Two Phase competition, picking up a fourth place when finishing one-and-a-half seconds off the pace of French winner Bruno Jazede.

Earlier, he claimed the runner-up spot in the 1m45 competition aboard Tom McGurk's Aladatus Z mare 'Macushla R'.
