IRELAND'S Billy Twomey finished in 15th place in today's (Sunday) Individual Final at the European Jumping Championships at Madrid, Spain, while fellow Cork rider Shane Sweetnam took 17th place.
The Gold medal went to Sweden's Rolf-Göran Bengtsson and Ninja La Silla, while Germany's Carsten-Otto Nagel took Silver on Corradina with Britain's Nick Skelton in Bronze medal position with Carlo.
Twomey, riding Sue Davies's mare Tinka's Serenade, had eight faults on his first outing today, but came back in the second round to record a zero score. US-based Sweetnam, riding Spy Coast Farm's bay stallion Amaretto Darco, had four faults in the first round but like Twomey left all the poles standing in the final round.
Though Twomey had a lower overall championship penalty score, Sweetnam picked up 6,400 euro prize money for finishing fourth in today's individual class, which was limited to the top 25 riders in Europe after three days of competition at Madrid.
