YOUNG RIDER CURRAN SNATCHES HSI CHIPPISON GRAND PRIX

(17 Mar 2010)

NINE combinations from a starting field of 37 made it through to the St. Patrick's Day jump-off in the HSI Chippison Grand Prix at Broadmeadows Equestrian Centre in Co. Meath this afternoon (Wednesday), but it was 20 year old Young Rider Frank Curran who escorted his father John's gelding 'Pepp' into the winner's enclosure.

With just five double clears in the competition, Dungannon-based engineering student Curran produced a turn of speed to see off challenger Eddie Moloney and 'the Irish-bred 'Slieveanorra' by just under half a second.

Antrim teenager Conor Drain was the other Young Rider in today's jump-off, but had to settle for third place on his mother Geraldine's mare 'Fine Filly'. Drain, who was runner-up in last year's league, also went clear, but was well over a second off the pace of the winning combination.

Sunday sees two legs of the HSI Chippison Spring Tour take place, one at Kernan's Equestrian Centre at Crossmaglen and one at Maryville Stables, Co. Cork.
