Young Rider Show Jumping - Ireland Joint Fourth In European Championships

(03 Jul 2009)

After Thursday's first round of the Nations' Cup, when Ireland lay in fifth, today's scores improved the position by one place with a final fault tally of 18, on a par with Germany.

Spain won the team competition on an aggregate score of 10 faults over two rounds after a jump-off with France. The Bronze Medal went to Italy with a total score of 17 penalties.

Ireland's Kelly O'Connor and 'Doc Holliday' made a dramatic recovery from Thursday's discard score of 21 to finish on zero today, while David Simpson and the Irish-bred 'Cruise With me' had one fence down in this afternoon's final round. David Blake and 'Fabienne' had two fences on the floor and a single time fault, while 'Tampa' with David Blake also incurred a time fault to add to a rail on the ground.

Both Young Rider and Junior teams at Hoofddorp jumped under the management of Horse Sport Ireland High Performance Coach Comdt. John Ledingham.
