Horse Sport Ireland’s High Performance Manager, Robert Splaine, has announced the team of four who will represent Ireland in Friday’s Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup at Hickstead, Great Britain. The team, in order of go, will be:

  • Wexford’s Bertram Allen (20) with Ballywalter Farm’s Molly Malone V
  • Cork’s Billy Twomey (39) with Mr CT Payne’s Diaghilev
  • Waterford’s Anthony Condon (29) with Anthony Condon & John Hales’ Aristio
  • Tipperary’s Shane Breen (42) with P Sultan & Breen Equestrian Ltd’s Golden Hawk

Speaking at the team announcement, Robert Splaine said; “Thankfully our place in next year’s top league, and in the Furusiyya league final in Barcelona this September, are secured at this stage. However, this is not the case for many of the countries here and as a result top teams have been fielded, which will make tomorrow’s Nations Cup a hugely difficult contest. Our lads are really up for this and we hope to do well.”

Ireland has been drawn first to jump out of the eight teams competing. This leg of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Series at Hickstead is the last leg in the 2016 Series, with the final taking place in Barcelona, Spain, from 22nd to 25th September. Action kicks off tomorrow at 14.15 GMT.
