TIPPERARY’s Denis Lynch scored a hugely impressive runner-up finish, in today’s ninth round of the World Cup series at the five-star show in Leipzig, Germany, with the stallion All Star 5.
Lynch was one of 14 combinations to make it into the second round jump-off, where the relatively unknown 22-year-old German rider Niklas Krieg scored the biggest win of his career with the mare Carella.
Lynch finished as one of just three double clear rounds with the 13-year-old All Star, collecting 17 valuable league points in his quest to reach the World Cup final in Gothenburg this March.
Wexford’s Bertram Allen also made it into the jump-off with Molly Malone but two fences on the floor saw them finish in 12th overall.
The result moves Lynch up to 33rd position on the league table with two rounds of the series left to jump. Dermott Lennon is best placed of the Irish in 32nd position, while Bertram Allen is in 40th place heading to the penultimate qualifying round at Zurich in a fortnights time.
