IRELAND’S biggest farming competition, the Farming Independent Zurich Farmer of the Year awards are back, with new categories and a fantastic prize fund of €25,000.

One of the categories is aimed as those involved in farming, combined with the thoroughbred or sport horse sectors, so if you think you are one of the country’s top equine businesses – or you believe you know one – now is the time to get your nomination form in.

All you need to say is why you think your nominee would be a worthy winner of the coveted awards.

There are a number of ways to enter. Cut out and fill in the application form you will find in the Farming Independent on Tuesday or log on to www.farmeroftheyear.ie and apply online. Or you can also download an application form from the website and post it in.

Prizes with €2,500 will be presented to each category at an awards night in Dublin on May 22.

The overall Grand Prix winner will scoop an additional €5,000.

There is also a special Lifetime Achievement award, which was won last year, in the inaugural running of the awards, by Denis Brosnan, former CEO of the Kerry Group.

Closing date for entries is Friday, March 20th. For more information, contact your Teagasc or agricultural advisor or log on to www.farmeroftheyear.ie
