Aachen CICO3* Nations Cup Squad Announced

Eventing High Performance Manager, Nick Turner, has today announced the squad to represent Ireland at the prestigious Aachen Nations Cup which takes place in Germany from the 12th to 14th  August.

The team will be:

  • Sarah Ennis & Horseware Stellor Rebound (ISH) 2004 gelding by VDL Ricochet (KWPN). Owner: Horseware Products LTD, Niki Potterton and the late Orla Ennis
  • Jonty Evans & Cooley Rorkes Drift (ISH) 2006 gelding by Courage II (HOLSLT) out of Doon-A-Ree-Lass (ISH), by Rachelle Comet (TB). Breeder: William McCarrison, Co. Down. Owner: Fiona Elliot
  • Austin O’Connor & Kilpatrick Knight (ISH) – 2005 bay gelding by Master Imp (TB) out of Golden Choice (ISH), by Golden Trump (ID). Breeder: Joan J Dolan, Co. Kildare. Owner: Mrs Wendy Foster.
  • Sam Watson & Horseware Lukeswell (ISH) – 2005 bay gelding by Puissance (ISH) out of Gentle Servant (ISH), by Kings Servant (ISH). Breeder: Teresa Walsh, Co. Kilkenny. Owner: Sam Watson and Horseware Products Ltd.

“I am very excited to have such a strong team of horses and riders travelling to Aachen and I would like to thank the owners for their support in making their horses available. This is a very high profile competition and I believe that we are in a position to deliver a very good result” said Nick Turner.

The team will be supported by the newly appointed Eventing Team Coaches, Ian Woodhead (Dressage) and Gerry Flynn ( Jumping) who will now be working closely with the squad as they prepare for the European Championships at Blair Castle, Scotland in September and the Rio Olympic Games next year. Turner said “I would very much like to welcome Ian and Gerry on board as their experience will help us take the performances of the squad to another level and I’m sure that the athletes will benefit from working with them in the build up to Rio”

Turner also announced that Michael Ryan has been added to the Rio Squad of riders that are working towards their place in next year’s Olympic Games.
