Wexford’s Bertram Allen added to Irish success at the five-star German fixture in Aachen, with a fourth place finish in today’s Prize of AachenMünchener 1m55 feature class with the stallion Romanov.
Allen was one of 13 riders who jumped clear in the opening round with Romanov, who, at 18-years-old was by far the oldest horse in the competition. A hugely competitive jump-off saw Allen and Romanov again jump clear in a time of 47.88 seconds to finish fourth.
Flying Frenchman Rodger Yves Bost took the winners prize with Pegase du Murier after a blistering jump-off round in 44.94, knocking American Beezie Madden into second with Breitling LS, while Spaniard Sergio Alvarez Moya finished third with Arrayan.
Earlier in Aachen the Irish Eventing team finished third in the German Nations Cup, while Kildare Dressage rider Judy Reynolds continued her preparations for the Rio Olympics, with a ninth place finish in the Grand Prix Special with Vancouver K.
Meanwhile at the Belgian three-star show in Knokke, Offaly’s Darragh Kenny claimed a win in the 1m45 Accumulator with Fixdesign Funke Van ‘T Heike.
