EIGHTEEN year-old Bertram Allen continued his recent run of sparkling form on Sunday when he won the Grand Prix at Leszno in Poland and also the final of the Silver Tour, with a second place in the Gold Tour Final to complete his day’s successes.
With Ballywalter Farms’s grey mare Molly Malone V, the Wexford teenager saw off a strong international field at the three-star show to claim the 7,400 euro Grand Prix prize, beating Britain’s Joe Clee and Utamaro d’Ecaussines by almost two seconds in the nine horse jump-off.
Earlier, Allen dominated the 56-strong field at the Silver Tour Final at Leszno, steering Wild Thing L, jointly owned by Ballywalter Farms and Billy Twomey, to first place with well over two seconds in hand over Germany’s Jorg Kreutzmann and Vicky 216.
In the Gold Tour Final, Allen came within .65 of a second of winning the class with the Ballywalter Farms-owned mare Zenzation, but had to concede victory to the faster time of Poland’s own Jaroslaw Skrzyczynski and Baltazar du Rouet.
On Saturday, Allen also took a third place with Zenzation in the 1m40 competition against the clock.
