CORK rider Shane Sweetnam scored a third placing in tonight’s (Friday) 1m45 West Jet Cup at the four-star meeting at Spruce Meadows, Canada, marking his second top-three finish in successive days.
Partnering Easy Contact Humlan, the Irishman took the lead in the event midway through the jump-off when delivering a second clear round in 37.38, but was overhauled, first by former Olympic Champion Eric Lamaze on Rosana Du Park, who came home in 36.71, and then by outright winner Todd Minikus, who got Con Capilot across the beam in 35.48.
A single time fault denied Down rider Conor Swail a place in the jump-off on board Grafton.
On Thursday Sweetnam had also taken third place on Chaqui Z in the 1m50 Cargill Cup at the Canadian venue, and earlier on Friday he steered Bluf to a ninth place finish in another 1.45 class.
