Horse Sport Ireland is delighted to announce the opening of the 2025 National Breeding Services schemes, funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. These schemes contribute to the Young Horse Pathway delivered by Horse Sport Ireland. This pathway is open and available to all studbook breeders, producers, and owners in Ireland, and provides breeders with support for the breeding and production of sport horses. These schemes provide support for all aspects of the sport horse sector with something for all breeders and all studbooks at virtually each stage or age of the horse’s life; from conception to 7/8 years. They also provide opportunities for horse and pony breeders nationwide to add value to their herd, in terms of both breeding, performance and market value. Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) has launched the 2025 DAFM Studbook Series for Show Jumping taking place in regions nationwide from March to July. This Series is funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine (DAFM) under National Breeding Services and delivered by Horse Sport Ireland. The 2025 series is open to all DAFM-approved studbooks and has a total prize fund of €90,000*. All riders/breeders and producers must familiarise themselves with terms, conditions, and eligibility of the DAFM Studbook Series HERE. Classes for 5-year-old, 6-year-old and 7-year-old horses will be held at selected venues throughout Ireland listed below. As of 5pm on Tuesday, 7th January 2025, the application process for the Breeding Grant Initiative is now closed. Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) is seeking applications for the 2025 Breeding Grant Initiative. This Initiative supports funding for breeding and production initiatives for young horse classes and production events. The Breeding Grant Initiative is funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine through National Breeding Services. Applications will be considered based on the following criteria: Compatibility with the recommendations in Reaching New Heights Number of entries, level/history of event and show facilities Breeder prizes and breeder recognition Geographical, native breed and discipline spread Overall contribution to the development of the industry and sport horse breeding nationwide Suitability of date Matching funds – % request versus overall prizemoney Equine Welfare provisions (access to shade, water, inspection provision etc.) Insurance and Safeguarding policies in place for the show (affiliated safeguarding is […]
The final for the 2024 Foal Championship, and inaugural final for Loose Jumping, took place at Emerald Equestrian Centre, Co Kildare on Thursday 24th October. This fantastic initiative is funded under National Breeding Services by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. 20 foals and 12 fillies competed in their respective categories for the coveted champion titles. One foal in each section of the Horse and Pony qualifiers were selected to compete at the final in Emerald; while first and second place at each of the Loose Jumping qualifiers earned a spot in the grand final for its first year. The Foal championships kicked off at 12pm with the eventing Ponies. The judges were Sarah Ennis and Nicky Roncoroni.
