Horse Sport Ireland recently held 5 qualifiers in the HSI Foal Championship 2020. The overall Championship had a prize fund of almost €25,000. There regional qualifiers had separate categories and sections for horses and ponies for potential show jumping foals and potential eventing foals. The aim was to identify, evaluate and reward breeders who have bred a foal that has the potential to be competitive at the highest level in the disciplines of show jumping or eventing. The qualifiers were held in September and four foals from each regional qualifier will advance to the final; the best show jumping type and the best eventing type in each category (horse and pony). HSI are pleased to include a prize at each of the qualifiers for the best traditionally bred (TIH) foal in the horse sections. In the final this year there was €10,000 awarded across the categories. EMS Adelaide (ISH) by Mermus R out of Sante Cruise by Loch Cruise bred by Willie McElhinney, Owned by Daisy Duggan and ridden by Sean Monaghan jumped double clear in a time of 43.49 seconds to win the 7-Year-Old Final of the Irish Sport Horse Studbook Show jumping Series at Cavan Equestrian. Sean had the fastest double clear in the 7-year-old class, he beat off stiff competition from the 8 combinations who made it through to the final. In the 5-Year-old final Cora Sharkey jumped the quickest double clear to win, riding AHG Whiterock Duggie (ISH) by ARD VDL Douglas out of Raheenwood Cruise by Raheenwood Ginger bred by Ann Gannon Clancy owned by Joseph M Sharkey. The HSI loose jumping due to take place in Cavan next Tuesday 20th October has been postponed. The HSI Foal Championship also due to take place in Cavan on 20th October has been relocated to Warrington Equestrian Centre on Monday 26th October commencing at 10am. There is also a leg of the HSI loose jumping championship taking place in Warrington on the 26th October commencing at 2.30pm. No spectators can attend, however the event will be videoed. These arrangements are all subject to further changes in line Government Covid-19 guidelines.
