TIPPERARY’S Shane Breen claimed victory with Wembley Farms Inc’s gelding Calido Boy in the speed class of the five-star World Cup show in Oslo, Norway on Friday, and brought out the same horse for a third place today (Saturday).
Meanwhile Wexford’s 19 year-old Bertram Allen last night continued his recent run of success with a win at the three-star show in Odense, Denmark on Dr. R. Smith’s gelding Belmonde.
Breen’s win at Oslo saw German Olympian Christian Ahlmann finish in second place with Caruso, just over a second slower than the Irish rider, while today Calido Boy was two seconds off the pace of Belgian winner Gregory Wathelet and Riesling du Monselet, with Maikel van der Vleuten from the Netherlands taking the runner-up spot on Vdl Groep Eureka.
Mayo’s Cameron Hanley also recorded a fourth place in Oslo’s Friday night 1m50 feature competition, aboard Eleonore Paschoud and Yves Bouvier’s nine year-old Caretina de Joter. The class was won by France’s Pénélope Leprevost and Nice Stephanie.
Teenager Bertram Allen rode Belmonde into first place in Friday’s biggest class at Odense, beating Germany’s Johannes Ehning and Cayenne by just under half a second.
