IRELAND’S Trevor and Shane Breen have established a strong presence in the first two days of the five-star show in Hickstead England, with Trevor claiming a win in the first international class on Thursday, and brother Shane taking a second place this morning (Friday).
Tipperary-born Trevor opened proceedings with a first place in the Bunn Leisure Vase competition, steering the nine year-old stallion Georgie D’Auvray Ec to victory in a big 80-strong class, stopping the clock just under a second ahead of joint runners-up Harrie Smolders from the Netherlands and Britain’s Holly Gillott, who both came home on an identical time.
Today’s Bunn Leisure International Stakes saw 40 year-old Shane Breen and the ten year-old gelding Reconnaissance battle it out for a win with American Olympian Beezie Madden and the stallion Breitling LS, with the Irishman settling for second place when outpaced by just over one-and-a-half seconds.
