DUBLIN-born Aoife Clark held on to her second place at the three-star three-day event at Ravenna in Italy today (Sunday), going clear in the show jumping phase to finish on a score of 56.50, just over half a point adrift of Italy’s Vittoria Panizzon with Borough Penny Z, who also left all the poles standing on the final day.

Clark, who piloted John Forde and Cressida Legge’s Irish Sport Horse Wasting Light, battled to catch the Italian through all three phases, and although recording the fastest cross country round on Saturday and narrowing the penalty gap with Panizzon, nevertheless fell agonisingly short of overtaking the leader.

Third place at Ravenna went to Switzerland’s Felix Vogg with Onfire, who finished just over a point behind Clark in the closely-fought competition.

At Le Pouget in France, meanwhile, Ireland’s Padraig McCarthy and Bernadette Utopia improved from overnight sixth place to finish in fourth, despite incurring four faults in the show jumping phase. The winner was France’s Stanislaus de Zuchowicz with Sobbys des Champs, the only combination to go clear in the final phase of the two-star event.
