Irish riders were in excellent form tonight (Friday) at Lyon’s World Cup show in France, with Co Louth’s Mark McAuley the pick of the bunch when taking a fourth place finish in the five-star Longines Grand Prix.
A massive 20 combinations made it through to the jump-off where McAuley partnered Eva Lundin’s 9-year-old gelding Jasco vd Bisschop to an impressive clear against the clock. A time of 35.98 seconds saw them slot into fourth place at the finish to collect €10,000.
Waterford’s Anthony Condon and SFS Aristio continued their good run of form when also jumping double clear on their way to a seventh place finish in 39.58. Offaly’s Darragh Kenny and Cassini Z had one of the fastest times of the competition (34.93), but one fence down saw them take ninth place overall. Germany’s Daniel Deusser collected the winners prize of €25.000 with Tobago Z after crossing the line clear in 34.60.
Lyon will host the latest round of the Longines FEI World Cup series on Sunday.
