At Horse Sport Ireland (HSI), we believe that great coaches are always learning—and that learning can happen in many ways, both formal and informal. To better support this ongoing development, we’ve updated our approach to CPD to make it more flexible, inclusive, and meaningful.

  • No More Minimum Points Requirement
    Coaches are no longer required to earn five CPD points each year.
  • More Learning Opportunities
    HSI will continue to offer a wide variety of CPD events, tailored to different interests and coaching levels.
  • Introducing Expertise Badges
    Coaches who earn 20 points in a specific area can now earn an Expertise Badge—a visible mark of achievement that will appear next to their name on the HSI website.

Coaches can work toward badges in these key areas:

  • Performance Coaching
  • Participation Coaching
  • Equine Health & Welfare
  • Horsemanship
  • Business Strategy

These badges recognise focused learning and specialised skills, helping coaches stand out in their field.

To maintain your accreditation as an HSI coach, you still need to meet the following essential requirements:

  • Garda Vetting
    To ensure a safe and trustworthy coaching environment.
  • Safeguarding Training
    Especially important for protecting children and vulnerable participants.
  • First Aid Certification
    So you’re prepared to respond to emergencies effectively.

We know that many of our affiliate organisations run excellent events that support coach education. We want to recognise and promote these events as CPD opportunities.
