Irish riders dominated the line-up in tonight’s (Saturday) “Golden Drum of Basel” 1m50 jump-off class at the five-star Swiss show in Basel, where Cork’s Billy Twomey scored a superb win with the Sue Davies-owned Lady Lou.
Three of the seven combinations who made it into the jump-off were Irish, and Twomey’s clear against the clock in 44.08 seconds with Lady Lou, would see him take the winners prize of €16,600. Tipperary’s Denis Lynch came closest to catching Twomey and took second place with Dito in 45.43.
Fifth place would also go to Ireland with Bertram Allen scoring his second fifth place finish in the space of 24 hours. The Wexford rider had finished fifth in Friday’s Longines Grand Prix in Basel with Molly Malone and he scored another fifth place finish on Saturday night – this time with GK Casper.
Twomey, Lynch and Allen will all be in action in Sunday’s Longines FEI World Cup Grand Prix, which gets underway at 1.15pm Irish time at the Swiss venue.
