DAFM Showjumping Studbook Series kicks off in Tipperary
- 31 March 2025, 14:43
The first leg of the DAFM Showjumping Studbook Series took place on Saturday 29th March in Tipperary Equestrian Centre by kind permission of the Ryan family. The Series is delivered by Horse Sport Ireland, and funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine (DAFM) under National Breeding Services. The 2025 series is open to all DAFM-approved studbooks with a total prize fund of €90,000.
Over 120 young horses competed across the three age categories over the brilliant courses designed by Killian Clarke. Fifty-one hoses contested the 5-year-old section with 17 of these delivering a double clear to claim the first points on the leaderboard for 2025. The 17 clears shared a prize fund of €1,800, with breeder and groom prizes of €300 and €100 respectively awarded at random amongst the clears. The Groom Prize fund was introduced in the series for 2024 to recognize and reward bona fide grooms who are active in the industry and provide essential health & welfare support to competing young horses.
Within the 44 entries in the 6-year-old section, 18 of these produced a double clear to split the prize fund of €2,000. Breeder and groom prizes to the same value as above were also awarded.
The 7-year-old section included a jump off to return a winner and it was Max Foley riding the Bravo Hughes owned GCS Othello (ISH) who came out on top of the 27-horse field to take the lion’s share of the €2,880 prize fund. Foley also filled sixth place with the Marion Hughes owned stallion HHS Flonix (ISH). The Minister of Defence’s Kinmar Corr Dubh (ISH) took second place ridden by 2/LT Raphael Lee while third place went to Alice Moloney riding the Tom Moloney owned Sir Escobar (ISH)
The next leg of the series takes place in Mullingar Equestrian Centre on the 12th and 13th April. More information about the series is available by clicking HERE
