Fourth place finish for Denis Lynch in Belgian Grand Prix while Michael Pender, Harry Allen and Brian Cournane feature in weekend action

Tipperary’s Denis Lynch has finished fourth in today’s (Sunday) five-star Grand Prix at Waregem in Belgium with the 10-year-old gelding The Sinner. Lynch briefly took the lead in the jump-off when posting the first clear round in a time of 45.22 seconds. That proved good enough for fourth place at the finish with Lynch pocketing €27,000.
Belgium’s Niels Bruynseels took the winners prize with Lady Cracotte. They posted the winning clear round in 39.85 when last to jump and collected a new BMW car and just over €19,000.
Meanwhile at Vilamoura in Portugal, Kildare’s Michael Pender finished third in the three-star Grand Prix with Casanova Van Overis Z behind British winner Emma Stoker with Townhead Tallulah V. At Barbizon in France, Wexford’s Harry Allen finished as runner-up in the two-star Grand Prix with Cheese WZ. Victory went to French rider Jeremy Le Roy with Razzia des Sables.
On Saturday night in the USA, Co Kerry’s Capt Brian Cournane scored an impressive runner-up finish in the $70,000 Fidelity Investments Classic at the four-star American Gold Cup in New York.
Riding the Irish Sport Horse mare Penelope Cruz, who is owned by Christine Stiller, Cournane took the lead when posting a clear in 37.05 seconds. He was eventually overtaken by McLain Ward (USA) aboard Tradition De La Roque, who took the winners prize with a time of 35.84. Kilkenny’s Richie Moloney also featured in the prizes, finishing sixth with. Freestyle De Muze.
