Hat-trick of Irish wins in Europe and North America

IRISH riders have scored a hat-trick of victories in the last 24 hours at shows in Canada, Sweden and The Netherland’s.

Derry-born Daniel Coyle was first out of the blocks with a win in the Pepsi Under 25 Challenge at Spruce Meadows in Canada on Friday night. Coyle guided Susan and Ariel Grange’s mare Somerset, to the fastest double clear round in 39.48 seconds at the five-star fixture.

Tipperary’s Shane Breen claimed the Runsten Trophy speed class at another five-star show at Falsterbo in Sweden riding Market Irminka (pictured below). Darragh Kenny and Catuso finished third, with Billy Twomey filling sixth place aboard Lizziemary.

Irish riders were also in excellent form in the Falsterbo Derby filling four of the top seven places. Cork’s Shane Sweetnam produced one of just two clear rounds with Cyklon, eventually finishing as runner-up after a jump-off against Ales Opatrny and Avocaro from the Czech Republic. Darragh Kenny and Zahra II finished fourth, one place ahead of Billy Twomey in fifth with his Hamburg Derby winner Diaghilev, while Shane Breen finished seventh with Acoustik Solo du Baloubet.

Mayo’s Cameron Hanley gave Ireland their third win when he took the 1m40 jump-off class at Geesteren in The Netherlands with Clim Bim, while Jonathan Gordon was best of the Irish in the Grand Prix qualifier at the same venue, finishing fourth with Fellini 131.
