Horse Sport Ireland Announce GAIN Junior and Young Rider European Eventing Squads

Horse Sport Ireland today announced the GAIN Junior and Young Rider European Eventing Squads that will compete at this year’s European Championships which will take place in Fontainebleau, France on the 8th to 15th of July.

The GAIN Young Rider Squad in alphabetical order is as follows:

  • Nessa Briody – Tom Boy (ISH)
  • Eva Melly – Annaghmore Ardeo Beach (ISH)
  • Christine O’Donnell – Blessington Prince Royal
  • Toni Quail – Ringfort Rua (ISH)
  • Stephanie Stammschroer- Master Swatch (ISH)

Speaking about the announcement Debbie Byrne, Horse Sport Ireland Young Rider Eventing Team Manager said:

“I am very excited to be announcing my squad of 5 riders . We have a depth of experience at championship level, having inherited riders from past Junior & Young Rider teams. We anticipate Fontainebleau to be a challenging & technical track, so experienced combinations will be hugely beneficial. It will be a fabulous week of competition with Junior & Young Rider Showjumping & Dressage Championships all sharing the venue. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my riders, parents & owners, who have truly shown such commitment to the young rider high performance programme, & also to our very valued sponsors. We promise to do our very best to achieve medal success.”

  • Lucy McIlroy – Major Black (ISH)
  • Katie Riley – Versace Biscuit (ISH)
  • Maresa Ronan – Superjumbo

1st Reserve – Megan Telford Kelly – Mr Chocolate (ISH)
2nd Reserve – Megan O’Leary – Silver Brog (ISH)

Speaking about the announcement Horse Sport Ireland Junior Eventing Team Manager Tom Doherty said:

“I would like to congratulate the riders who have been selected to represent Ireland at the forthcoming Junior European Eventing Championships in Fontainebleau, France. I am excited about my selection, I have selected riders and horses who have shown good form and confidence as we approach the championships. We have a mixture of experienced championship riders and some new exciting combinations travelling. I would like to thank the riders, parents, owners and sponsors for all of their support.”
