Horse Sport Ireland Autumn Development Series  – Report from Kernan’s, Warrington, Tipperary & Wexford

A hectic few days of action in the Horse Sport Ireland Autumn Development Series, has seen prize winners crowned all over Ireland in Dressage and Show Jumping.

The week’s action in the Horse Sport Ireland Autumn Development Series began at Kernan Equestrian Centre in Armagh on Wednesday September 30th, with a host of Young Horse Show Jumping competitions on offer. The HSI 4-year-old competition saw 17 of the 24 starters jump clear to share the prize fund. Sven Hadley and HSH Harper Du Seigneur came out on top in the HSI 5-year-old competition while the HSI 6-year-old competition was won by Young Rider Olivia Roulston and Clovalent. The HSI 7&8 year-old competition at Kernan’s was also won by Olivia Roulston, this time riding Miss Valent.

Prize winners from the HSI Autumn Development Series at Warrington

On Friday, Warrington Top Flight Equestrian Centre in Kilkenny hosted the Horse Sport Ireland Autumn Development Series, with HSI sponsoring competitions for horses from four to eight-years-old. The HSI 4-year-old competition saw a total of 9 combinations jump clear from 17 starters to share the prize fund. Jessica Stallard and DHF Alliance claimed victory in the HSI 5-year-old competition while the HSI 6-year-old competition was won by Ger O’Neill and GCS Ita. The HSI 7&8 year-old competition at Warrington saw 28 starters, with Liam O’Meara and Grangeview Cruise taking the winners prize.

Philip Gaw

The Horse Sport Ireland Autumn Development Series returned to Kernan’s on Saturday for the latest round of the Autumn Grand Prix league where victory went to Philip Gaw with Ardnacashel Coovella. Their double clear round in 37.49 seconds saw them finish over two seconds ahead of runner-up Gerard Clarke with King Lupin. Liam O’Meara and Russel Style finished third, while fourth place went to Jonathan Smyth and Mulvin Lui. Luke Campbell took fifth place with Derryinver Truffle while Jonathan Smyth also took sixth place with Carrick Kilderrys Diamond.

Dressage action in the Horse Sport Ireland Autumn Development Series took place at Tipperary Equestrian Centre in Thurles on Saturday, with competitions for all levels from preliminary to Grand Prix including competitions for 4,5 & 6-year-old young horses.

The Grand Prix at Tipperary was won by Heike Holstein with Sambuca on a score of 74.02%, while Kate Dwyer finished second with Snowdon Faberge on 71.52%.

Paul Beecher

Sunday’s Underwriting Exchange National Grand Prix at Wexford Equestrian, which was part of the Horse Sport Ireland Autumn Development Series, saw Waterford’s Paul Beecher take victory with Ikona V.’T Recht Eind.
The Co Waterford-born former Hickstead Derby winner came out on top after a six-horse jump-off and Beecher also took sixth place with Glamstone.
Jason Higgins finished as runner-up with Dondoctro Ryal K while third place went to Jennifer Kuehnle (YR) and Tullibards Miss Optimistic. A fourth place finish for Kildare’s Derek McConnell aboard Dothraki Warlord was enough to see him crowned overall league champion, while fifth place in Wexford went to Tholm Keane and BMH Big Time.

There was also Eventing action this weekend sponsored by Horse Sport Ireland, with Declan Cullen and Ultimate Quality winning the HSI EI 110 Eventing Series at Hillcrest in Co Limerick.

NEXT UP

The week ahead will again be an extremely busy one in the Horse Sport Ireland Autumn Development Series. Barnadown hosts two days of Jumping action starting this Wednesday, while Jumping moves to Tipperary on Saturday.  Punchestown will be the venue for Eventing competitions on Saturday and Sunday, while Portmore will play host to a full range of Dressage competitions on Saturday.
