Horse Sport Ireland Breeders Awards 2016

The 2016 Horse Sport Ireland breeder awards were held at the Springfort Hall Hotel, Mallow, Co. Cork on Wednesday 23rd November 2016.
The top award on the night which was for his Outstanding Contribution to ISH Breeding went to Mr Tom Jones from Co Monaghan. Tom has been involved in horses from a very early age and bred and stands the 4 Star Stallion CARRICK DIAMOND LAD (ISH){TIH}.
“Presently, Tom has in the region of thirty broodmares, which are mainly related to the top sires of the past such as the great Clover Hill, Highland Flight, Flagmount Diamond, Sky Boy, First Consul, Ozymandias, Cruising, Snuff Box and many more. Tom was also a founding member of the North Eastern Horse Breeders Group which was set up in the early 1990’s to educate and inform Irish breeders of the way ahead. He has embraced modern technology/social networking to promote his stallions and to sell online. This is a real success story with clients as far away as Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and America sourcing frozen semen from Carrick Diamond Lad and selling young horses all over England and Europe.
William Kells, the breeder of MIGHTY NICE (ISH)[was Over the Vee] currently ranked 2nd in the WBFSH rankings received the award as Breeder of the Highest Placed ISH in the WBFSH Eventing Rankings 2016. MIGHTY NICE (ISH) won an individual Olympic bronze medal for Phillip Dutton and the USA in Rio 2016.
David Moran from Limerick was awarded the Breeder of the Highest Placed ISH in the WBFSH Show Jumping Rankings 2016 for LIMESTONE GREY (ISH) – 2006 gelding by Try Time (KWPN) out of Millpark’s Courageous Lady (ISH). The partnership between LIMESTONE GREY and Italian rider Lorenzo De Luca is clear to see. Recent successes include 2nd at the 155m CSI5* show in Verona, 1st in the CSIO5* 160m class in Spruce Meadows and 1st in the 155m class at the CSI5* show in Moritz.
Frank & Laura Glynn, of Killossery Lodge Stud received an award for Highest Placed ISH at the FEI World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses, Lanaken 2016 with KILLOSSERY KAIDEN (ISH) – 2010 mare by Lux Z (HANN) out of Killossery Kruisette (ISH), by Cruising (ISH). Kilkenny’s Ger O’Neill and the Irish Sport Horse Killossery Kaiden were crowned World Champions after winning the Gold Medal in the six-year-old final at the World Breeding Jumping Championships at Lanaken in Belgium this year. Killossery Lodge Stud has an impressive pedigree in sport horse breeding, training and competition performance.
Marion Hughes and Anne Hughes, Breeders of ISH medal winners at the FEI World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses Lanaken 2016 for the Silver Medal winner Z SEVEN CARETINA (ISH) – 2011 by Coltaire Z (HOLST) out of Caretina (HOLST), by Caretino (HOLST) Owner: Team Z7. Rider: Michael Pender (IRL) and Bronze Medal Winner Z SEVEN CAN YA DANCE (ISH) – 2011 mare by Can Ya Makan (HOLST) out of HHS Chantilly Lace (ISH), by Cavalier Royale (HOLST). Owner: Team Z7. Rider: Michael Pender (IRL).
Don Hadden, Breeder of the Highest Placed ISH at the World Breeding Eventing Championships for Young Horses, Le Lion d’Angers 2016 for BUSINESS CLASS (ISH) – 2010 chestnut gelding by Harlequin Du Carel (SF) out of Moxella (OLD), by Quick Star (SF). Owned & bred by Don Hadden, Co. Wicklow. Rider: Sophie Richards (IRL). The Irish Sport Horse Studbook finished in third place overall, at the WBFSH World Breeding Eventing Championships. Business Class (ISH) and Richards were faultless in Saturday’s Cross Country phase and also in the final Show Jumping, to finish on their Dressage score of 51.1.

M R McKelvey, Breeder of Top ISH Showing Mare 2016, for SLATEQUARRY SASHA (ISH) – 2006 mare by Ghareeb (TB) out of Ordinary Lass (ISH) by Coevers Diamond Boy (ISH). Owner: Paula Howard.
Noel C Hamilton, Breeder of Top Irish Draught Showing Mare 2016 for UIBH FHAILE DUCHESS (ID) – 2001 mare by Ballinrobe Boy (ID C1) out of Glen Heste Duchess (RID) by Uibh Fhaili ‘81 (ID C1). Owner: John Bracken
Top Junior Young Breeder Award went to Christine O Donnell, Gowran, Kilkenny.
Top Senior Young Breeder Award winner was Becky Grimes, Skerries, Dublin.
Awards for the Breeders of a medal winner in Eventing at the Rio Olympics 2016 went to;

Paula Cullen for PAULANK BROCKAGH (ISH) (placed 4th)– 2003 mare by Touchdown (ISH) out of Calender Girl (ISH), by Triggerero (TB). Owners: Mr & Mrs S Posford, Mrs J Carter and Sam Griffiths. Rider: Sam Griffiths (AUS)
Jennifer Richardson received the Irish Performance pony breeder award for BALLYOWEN MAYBELLE MOLLY
