Horse Sport Ireland Foal Championships Final 2017

The Sport Horse Foal Championship aims to identify, evaluate and reward breeders who have bred a foal that has the potential to be competitive at the highest International level in the disciplines of Show Jumping or Eventing. Foals were judged under the criteria of functional conformation, walk, trot, canter, overall athleticism and balance as well as pedigree.

The final will take place at on Saturday, 2nd September at the Irish Breeders Classic Show in Barnadown Stud, Gorey, Co. Wexford  at 11.45am where a pot of €10,000 will be on offer and four Champions will be named; Champion Showjumping colt and filly and Champion Eventing colt and filly. There will also be a special prize for the overall best traditionally-bred foal.

This year saw 6 well-contested regional qualifiers where 4 foals were selected for the final; the best show jumping type colt and filly, and the best eventing type colt and filly. The qualifying venues were Coilog Equestrian Centre, Wexford Equestrian, Newcastle West Show, Galway Equestrian Centre, Tubberbride Stables and The Meadows Equestrian Centre.
