Horse Sport Ireland re-launch the Mare Upgrade Scheme for 2021
- 10 March 2021, 09:00
Are you planning on investing in performance fillies or mares from abroad this year?
Horse sport Ireland (HSI) are delighted to continue to offer a mare upgrade incentive scheme for breeders in 2021. This scheme, which is being funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), will facilitate breeders who wish to purchase performance damline fillies or retired performance mares from abroad for breeding purposes.
The scheme is open to foals/fillies/mares who are registered abroad in a WBFSH/DAFM approved studbook and meet the performance requirements. The mares/filly’s eligibility status will be determined based on dam line performance and sire performance. Following a valid and approved online application, HSI will cover the cost of veterinary pre-purchase screening and transport back to Ireland. HSI will also provide access to a dedicated breeding scheme advisor to provide practical help in navigating the process.
Breeders may apply for up to two fillies/mares to be included in the screening. Please click here for the terms and conditions of this scheme and here for the performance requirements. This scheme operates on a first come first served basis up to the maximum allocation facilitated by the existing budget allocation.
Deadline for applications is the 31st of October 2021.
