HSI Coaching First Aid Renewal Notice – Updated 22 October

  • 22 October 2020, 15:47

All Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) Accredited Coaches are required to hold a valid First Aid qualification of the appropriate standard – First Aid Responder (FAR) or BHS Equine Specific.

As a result of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) has allowed a grace period for renewal.

Any coach who holds a FAR certificate that expired on or after 1st March 2020 must arrange to attend a FAR refresher course by 31st October 2020.

If the certificate has not been renewed by this date, the qualification will be deemed out of date and coaches will need to attend the three-day course again.

PHECC recently confirmed that this grace period will NOT be extended in light of the recent Government restrictions put in place.

Please contact your local training provider for a list of upcoming course dates as soon as possible. There is also a list of upcoming FAR courses on the AIRE website: https://www.aire.ie/index.php/courses/first-aid

If you are unsure if a course is of the required standard, or if you have any queries, please contact the HSI Coaching Department at +353 45 854533.

The British Horse Society (BHS) has allowed a grace period for renewal of the Equine Specific First Aid. Any coach who holds a certificate that expired on or after 1st March 2020 has until 31st December 2020 to renew their qualification.

Once you have completed your qualification please send a copy of your certificate to Jennifer Diamond  at jdiamond@horsesportireland.ie
