Good fortune shines down on HSI Affiliate Combined Training Final
- 16 March 2022, 10:35
The final of the Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) Affiliate Combined Training Challenge took place at CoilÓg Equestrian Centre on Sunday 13th of March. The HSI Affiliate Combined Training Challenge was an opportunity for affiliate members to get their competition season off on the right foot. Educational dressage tests and encouraging showjumping tracks over four levels were offered across all seven qualifiers and the final, suiting all abilities and encouraging athletes to utilise and demonstrate correct training on the flat and over fences. Horse Sport Ireland would like to congratulate everyone that qualified around the country and competed at the finals last weekend.
The HSI 1.10m Final was won by Clodie Coen with Martin Coen’s Union Fortunus (ISH) after a super clear round to stay on their fantastic dressage score of 28. There were only 3 marks separating the winner and second and third place, with second place going to Meabh Bolger and her own MBF Back to Back (ISH). This combination posted the best dressage score in the class of 27, however one down in the jumping phase resulted in a combined score of 31. Emma Egan and Marino (ISH), finished on their dressage score of 31 for third place. Fourth place went to Hollybrook Star (ISH) ridden by India Rogers, fifth place went to Milchem Free Spirit (ISH) and Godfrey Gibbons, and sixth place went to Danos Lola (ISH) and Alyssa O’Neill.
In the HSI 1m Final, Eimear Nee and the Connemara Pony Charlie of Blakehill (CP), owned by Catriona Clancy, scored 24 in the dressage phase – the lowest dressage score of the day. This was followed by an impeccable clear round adding nothing to their score to win the class in style. Hot on their heels and finishing in second place was Tom Nestor and David Nestor’s Freddie on a score of 25.5. Finishing in joint third place and half a point behind was again Tom Nestor, this time with Tullaree Ruby Tuesday (CP), and Ciara Power and her own Rossmount Aldi Hero (ISH). Both finished on their impressive dressage scores of 26. Fifth place went to Louise Bloomer and Hollybrook High Maintenance (ISH) followed by Michael O’Toole and Beechdale Jago (ISH) in sixth place.
The HSI 90cm Final was the largest class of the day with Louise Bloomer and Shannondale Levi (ISH) bred by Mary Walsh, jumping clear to take the spoils on a score of 25.75. Second place and finishing on a score of 29.75 was Emily Marnane and the Connemara Pony Danny’s Pride (CP). Third place went to Remember Bea, ridden by Gemma Goldrich on a score of 30. Close on her heels with a score of 30.25 and finishing in joint 4th place was Kate Solon and Oakport Ringo Star (ISH) and Emily Acton and Gtown Dusty Knuckles (ISH). Finishing up the lineup in 6th place was Matthew Dickenson and Major Sam (ISH).
The HSI 80cm Final was won by the 4-Year-Old Irish Sport Horse Shirsheen Rocketman (ISH), owned and ridden by Linda Murphy. The pair completed a foot-perfect clear round, adding nothing to their dressage score of 29.75 to win the class. Second place went to Connemara Pony Ballyerk Lover (CP) and Georgina Petit, with a dressage score of 27.25 and picking up four faults in the jumping round to finish on a combined score of 31.25. Third place went to Ye Chancer Ye and Wayne Santry, on a combined score of 32, also picking up four penalties in the jumping phase. Fourth place went to Creganna Dandini (CP) and Marjorie Hardiman, with fifth place going to Creganna Milady (ISH) and Lara Field, and sixth place going to Acrefield Enzo and Emma Laurence.
On the day there were also Combined Training classes for any combinations that were not qualified to compete in the HSI Final classes. The winner of the CT EI110 class was Icco (KWPN) ridden by Michael O’Toole; The CT EI100 class was won by Jane O’Flynn and Greenhall Good Decision (ISH); Brian Kuehnle and Tullibards Get Ready Teddy (ISH) won the CT EI90 class and Jessica Kuehnle and Tullibards Simply Cool (ISH) took the title in the CT EI80 class.
