HSI Show Jumping Autumn Development Series Final Cavan

The Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) Show Jumping Development Series Final was held in Cavan Equestrian Centre last weekend on the 11th and 12th December. Saturday’s line up included the 4-year-old final and the 7&8-year-old final. The remaining classes which included the 5-year-old, 6-year-old and HSI 1m40 Grand Prix took place on Sunday the 12th of December.
The first class of the weekend for the HSI Development Series was the 4-year-old class and it was hotly contested with a total of 58 entries. Throughout the series, the 4-year-old classes were based on clear rounds only, however, in the final, the 4-year-olds were judged by a panel of experts. First place went to Clarified (ISH) & Sophie Richardson. The 2017 Gelding by Dignified Van’t Zorgvliet and out of the Lux Z (HANN) mare, Barnadown Looks (ISH), is owned and bred by Maurice Cousins. The duo garnered an impressive score of 95, four points ahead of second place who went to Twain Flight (ISH) & Eddie Moloney. The 2017 mare, bred and owned by Ann Moloney, is by Luidam (KWPN) out of Ashtown Cavalier (ISH) by Mark Twain (TB).
The second HSI Development Series Class of the day, for 7&8-year-old horses, attracted 36 combinations to take on the challenge and proved to be a tough track with 9 combinations making it through to the jump off and only 3 combinations producing double clear rounds. The eventual winner, with a double clear and a time of 34.35 was Ardkyle B (ISH) and Eddie Moloney. The 8-year-old gelding by Aganix Du Seigneur (SBS) out of Abercrombie B (ISH) by O-Piloth (KWPN), is owned by Peter O’Toole and bred by Etter Sportpferde.
The final day of the three-day festival and second day of the HSI Development Series Final saw the 5-year-old class kick off mid-morning. The classes of 42 entries saw 10 combinations produce double clear rounds. Fastest of the double clears and taking the win was Mulvin Springball (ISH), ridden by Jonathon Smyth. The 5-year-old mare by Beach Ball (ISH) out of Lauras Last (ISH) by HHS BR Charlton (ISH), is owned and bred by Noletta Smyth.
The 6-year-old HSI Development series had 37 entries with 9 combinations making it through two the jump-off. Only two combinations produced double clears and the fastest double clear, by just over half a second, was Gortacar Suspicious Minds 005 (ISH) and Emma McEntee. The 2015 gelding by OBOS Quality 004 (OLD) and out of Walterstown Girl (ISH) by Cruising (ISH), is owned by Gortacar Stables and bred by Ralph Morgan.
Wrapping up the end of the HSI Show Jumping Development Series Final on Sunday was the HSI 1m40 Grand Prix. The largest class of the series final saw 59 entries take it on. 17 combinations made it through to the jump off with the top six producing double clear rounds. The overall winner was Athletix Hero Z, owned and ridden by Dermott Lennon. Second place went to Happy-Girl, owned and ridden by Josefina Goess-Saurau. Third place went to Lajgardens Cannavaro, owned by Conor Swail and ridden by Jenny Rankin.
