HSI Sport Horse Foal Qualifier Results – Newcastle West Show

The Sport Horse Foal Championship aims to identify, evaluate and reward breeders who have bred a foal that has the potential to be competitive at the highest International level in the disciplines of Show Jumping or eventing.

Newcastle West Show held the Region 3 qualifier on Sunday the 17th  July. The potential eventing foals were judged first followed by the showjumping foals.

Show jumping foals

The potential show jumping filly section was won by Andries De Bont with his foal by Vdl Bubalu (KWPN) out of Vamp (KWPN). Second place went to Marie Hennessy and her filly by KMS Chicago (AES) out of Cornascriebe Sumas Flirt (ISH) by Womanizer (KWPN)
Andries De Bont also took home first place in the top show jumping colt section with his foal by I’m Special de Muze (BWP) out of Wulfin (KWPN). Taking reserve was Edel and Dominic Curtin showing their colt by Lancelot (KWPN) out of Corgrigg Dancer (ISH). (ISH).

Eventing foals

The winner in the eventing filly class was Ann O’Grady with her foal by Adieu Z (ZANG) out of Ballingowan Boula (ISH). Stephen Hickey was awarded reserve with his filly Sibon W (KWPN) out of Laharn Flight (ISH).

John Keane and Valerie Lyons were the winners of the eventing colt class with their foal by Chinook Eclipse (TB) out of Kilcassey Lady (ISH). Second place was awarded to Billy Daly’s colt by Newmarket Venture (HANN) out of Kilderry Clover (ISH).

Each first placed colt and filly from the show jumping and eventing sections have qualified for the final of the Sport Horse Foal championship. It will be held on the 19th of September at Cavan Equestrian Centre where a pot of €10,000 will be on offer and two Champions will be named, Champion Show jumping Foal and Champion Eventing Foal.

The next regional qualifier to be held (region 5) will be at Tubberbride Stables, Co. Sligo on the 7^th of August, followed by region 2 at Wexford Equestrian, Co. Wexford on the 18^th of August. The Northern Ireland region qualifier is to be held at The Meadows Equestrian Centre, Co. Armagh on the 19^th of August 2016 followed by the region 1 event in Coilog Equestrian Centre, Co Kildare on the 22^nd of August. The final qualifier will be the region 4 competition at Galway Equestrian Centre, Co. Galway on the 26^th August.
