Michael Blake’s Irish Show Jumping team of Kevin Gallagher, Max Wachman, Niamh McEvoy and Cian O’Connor, have finished fourth of 15 teams in today’s three-star Nations Cup at Vejer De La Frontera in Spain.

Ireland finished on a two round total of 16 faults with the highlight being second round clears for Tyrone’s Niamh McEvoy on her Nations Cup debut with The Irish Sport Horse Templepatrick Welcome Limmerick, bred by Dorothea Wilson and from anchor rider Cian O’Connor with Taj Mahal.

Ireland were on 12 faults at the halfway stage after three four-fault rounds from Tipperary’s Max Wachman with Quintini owned by Coolmore Showjumping, Tyrone’s Niamh McEvoy with Templepatrick Welcome Limmerick (ISH), owned by Robin Bingham and Meath’s Cian O’Connor with Taj Mahal owned by Susan Magnier.

Wachman and Quintini had one fence down second time out, before Ireland finished strongly with two impressive clears from McEvoy and O’Connor. The home team from Spain took victory on four faults, with Colombia second on 12 faults. Britain finished third on the same score as Ireland but in a slightly faster time.
