Ireland’s eventers begin their Olympic campaign this weekend

The 2016 Olympic Games kick off in Rio De Janeiro (BRA) this weekend. Ireland’s eventers will be first to compete for Team Ireland Equestrian, with the first day of dressage taking place on Saturday at 14.00 GMT. Dressage will continue on Sunday, moving to cross-country on Monday. On Tuesday, it will be the jumping phase, with the Team Final taking place at 14.00 GMT, followed by the Individual Final at 18.00 GMT.
In showjumping, action takes place at Valkenswaard (NED), Herlufmagle (DEN), Beervelde (BEL), Deauville (FRA), Le Touquet (FRA), Verden (GER), Caledon Ontario (CAN), San Giovanni In Marignano (ITA) and Nice (FRA). Ireland will also be represented this week in eventing at Gatcombe Park (GBR) and in endurance at Keysoe (GBR).
This week, 76 entries have been made for riders competing in international competitions. This is made up of 32 individual riders competing in nine different countries. So far for 2016, Irish riders have accounted for in excess of 4,700 entries in FEI events worldwide.
