The Irish Horse Welfare Trust (IHWT) has launched a new online horse care and welfare course. This new initiative by the charity aims to provide a wider reach with it’s education courses in a more cost effective way and is suitable for groups and individuals alike.
The charity has been involved in equine education programmes for over 10 years and has put many young people through formal and non-formal training over that time.
The course comprises of eight online modules covering all of the basic elements involved in the correct care and management of horses and ponies. Two practical modules provide an opportunity to put new learning into practice.

It is hosted on the Charity’s Learner Management System (LMS) which allows easy access from PCs, laptops, tablets and phones and content is delivered through blended learning using text, diagrams, videos and voice over. A quiz after each module provides assessment of participant progress and for overall group evaluation.
The course has been developed in association with RACE and Horse Racing Ireland and it is hoped that the course will also act as stepping stone for young people wishing to progress to a career working with horses.
The Irish Horse Welfare Trust is Ireland’s leading equine welfare charity. The IHWT is involved in the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of equines and also provides equine education.
The charity operates from a 68 acre farm in Co Wicklow where currently 55 horses and ponies are cared for.
