Ireland has secured an individual Dressage slot for the Rio Olympic Games adding to the team place already secured in Eventing and the individual place Show jumping place secured earlier in the week. This means that there will be at least 6 Irish Equestrian athletes at the games.

The individual Dressage place was confirmed this morning by the international equestrian governing body, the FEI, following the March 6th cut-off date for the Olympic rankings. Ireland was allocated the place as a result of Judy Reynolds Olympic ranking.

Horse Sport Ireland Chairman Prof. Patrick Wall said that “Judy is raising the profile of dressage in Ireland and her qualification for Rio is fantastic  and should get more young people participating in the sport in Ireland which will pay dividends for the entire sports horse industry.”

“Today’s news means that Team Ireland Equestrian will have at least 6 athletes competing at the Rio Olympics Games. With such fantastic talent available to us it should be an event to look forward to” he said.
