Irish pair Denis Lynch and Mark McAuley impress in Swiss World Cup – Lynch crowned Leading Rider

Tipperary’s Denis Lynch has completed an excellent few days at the five-star Swiss show in Basel, by taking fifth place in today’s (Sunday) Longines FEI World Cup Grand Prix.

Lynch took victory in Saturday evening’s “Golden Drum of Basel” when riding Cristello, and had taken a runner-up finish with GC Chopin’s Bushi in Friday’s Longines Grand Prix of Basel.

He once again partnered the Onyx Consulting owned GC Chopin’s Bushi in today’s World Cup and they were among 15 combinations who made it through to the jump-off. Lynch stopped the clock clear in 33.27 seconds in the second round which would give him a fifth place finish. Co Louth’s Mark McAuley and Vivaldi du Theil also made it into the jump-off and finished on exactly the same time (33.52) as French rider Kevin Staut with Viking d’La Rousserie to share seventh place overall.

Swiss Olympic champion and and former World No.1 Steve Guerdat took the World Cup win in front of his home fans with Victorio des Frotards. after they stopped the clock clear in 31.44.

Denis Lynch’s impressive results over the weekend saw him crowned Leading Rider of the Show in Basel, while he has also climbed to 10th place on the World Cup league table ahead of the next round of action next weekend at Leipzig in Germany.
