Irish pony riders enjoy huge success at Fontainebleau

Team Ireland Equestrian’s pony showjumpers were out in force at Fontainebleau, France, last week. On Thursday, Ireland took top spot in both of the young pony classes running on the opening day of the show. The first day’s results proved to be the start of a run for the Irish, as they went on to win twelve of the eighteen classes that took place at the French Show.

Saturday saw the Irish Pony Nations Cup team take third place. The Nations Cup team consisted of Harry Allen riding Cassandra Van Het Roelhof, Cormac Foley riding Crown Jewel, Grace O’Donnell riding Orchids Vienna and Cora Sharkey riding The Galway Blazer. France took the winning position with Denmark in second.  Ireland’s pony riders were also victorious in both the 6 year old and 7 year old Grand Prix classes on Saturday.

Sunday saw Hannah O’Shea with Cinderella Girl victorious in the CSI Pony Grand Prix for Ireland, while Grace O’Donnell finished best of the Irish in fourth place riding Orchid’s Vienna in the CSIO Pony Grand Prix.

Ireland’s pony riders not only won twelve classes at Fontainebleau, Olivia Roulston achieved the leading female rider award at the show with Robbie Clancy achieving leading male rider at the show.  Irish Pony Riders also finished in the top four of every class.

While Harry Allen competed in Fontainebleau this weekend older brother Bertram Allen competed in the World Cup Final in Las Vegas to finish third riding the 11 year old grey mare Molly Malone, this was his first time to compete at the prestigious World Cup Event aged 19.
