Irish Show Jumping team qualify for Friday’s FEI European Championships Team Final

The Irish Show Jumping team, managed by Michael Blake, have safely qualified as one on the 10 teams who will go forward to tomorrow’s (Friday) team final at the Longines FEI European Championships in Riesenbeck, Germany.

Ireland started the day in seventh place of 15 teams following their performance in Thursday’s opening competition and got off to a perfect start this morning with a clear round from Derry’s Daniel Coyle and the Ariel Grange-owned Legacy. Galway’s Michael Duffy was next to jump and he picked up 8 faults with the Katherine Duffy & HMF Equestrian-owned Zilton SL Z.
Co Clare’s Eoin McMahon then gave Ireland a huge boost with a perfect clear aboard the Madeleine Winter-Schulze -owned Chacon 2. Co Louth’s Mark McAuley was last to go for the Irish with the Scea la Tuiliere-owned Jasco vd Bisschop and they finished on 8 faults giving Ireland a score of 20.73 and in fifth place overall.
Switzerland hold the lead on 5.47 ahead of hosts Germany in second on 8.77, Olympic Champions Sweden are in the bronze medal position on 11.59, while Belgium are just outside the medal places in fourth on 17.34 and less than a fence ahead of Ireland.
The European Championship team medals will be decided following Friday’s final round.
Daniel Coyle and Legacy are best of the Irish on the individual standings and are in 12th place on 4.39 while Eoin McMahon and Chacon are in 20th on 6.70. Michael Duffy and Zilton SL Z are in 32nd on 11.37, with Mark McAuley and Jasco vd Bisschop in 42nd on 12.97.
