Irish Sport Horse Studbook representatives qualify for the final of the FEI/WBFSH World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses
- 23 September 2022, 21:56
Ireland is represented by over 70 combinations in total at the FEI/WBFSH World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses in Zangersheide, Lanaken, Belgium for the 2022 competition. Of those combinations, 19 make up the team selected to represent Irish WBFSH Studbooks on behalf of Horse Sport Ireland, while the remainder consist of Irish riders competing foreign-bred horses and Irish riders competing Irish Sport Horses, both under the wildcard system, as invitees of the show, and as overseas riders competing on Irish Sport Horses.
Of the riders selected to represent the Irish Sport Horse Studbook, two in the 5-year-old category have qualified for the final on Sunday, both of which jumped double clear rounds in the first and second qualifiers: Ciaran Moran with Greenhall Mullord and Niamh McEvoy with BP Tiny Dancer. Double clears were also posted by Jenny Kuehnle with Tullibards Bennys Special and Ethen Ahearne with ABC Saving Grace, who have qualified to compete in the 6-year-old final. Declarations are yet to be finalised for the 6-year-old and 7-year-old classes, but also declared so far for the 6-year-old final is Mikey Pender with HHS Rose, and in the 7-year-old class is Seamus Hughes-Kennedy with ESI Ali. Full breeding details are listed below.
In the 5-, 6- and 7-year-old finals there are a total of thirteen qualified riders either representing Ireland, or fielding Irish Sport Horses under other nationalities.
Speaking on the first two days of competition, Show Jumping Team Manager Jack Doyle commented, “It is a hugely competitive field and overall we have had some good results considering how high the standard is here. We have had some unlucky results over the two days, but the courses are big, the tracks are technical and the times are tight – our riders are dealing with them very well.”
Competition kicks off again tomorrow morning for the consolation final before the Grand Finals on Sunday.
