ISH Mare Championship Candidates Announced
- 30 October 2013, 13:17
Horse Sport Ireland have announced the fifteen mares that have qualified for the Irish Sport Horse Studbook Mare Championship at the upcoming Equus Live 2013 event. The HSI broodmare championship at Equus is taking place on Saturday 2nd November 2013 at 11.30am at the Event Centre in Punchestown Racecourse.
The top 15 mares presented at the Irish Sport Horse Studbook mare inspections this autumn have qualified to parade in the Championship where a prize fund of €7,400 is on offer. These mares have already met the veterinary, conformation, movement and free jumping criteria through the inspection process. At Equus Live, Michael Slavin will compere the proceedings and the owner of the mare that is crowned champion will receive prize money of €2,000 and the breeder will receive €500. In addition, all qualified mares that participate in the championship will receive an Irish Sport Horse Studbook mare premium of €250 for the owner and €100 for the breeder of the mare.
This Championship showcases the top three-year-old and four-year-old mares that were presented for inspection and have been assessed by Horse Sport Ireland’s inspection panel on the basis of their pedigree, conformation, movement and athleticism. All have shown exceptional qualities as potential broodmares which will be highlighted by HSI inspectors Comdt. John Ledingham and Maurice Coleman at the Broodmare Championship parade on the day.
Speaking on the announcement Professor Patrick Wall, Chairman of Horse Sport Ireland, said:
“The calibre of the young mares who have earned their invitation through the inspection process to the inaugural Irish Sport Horse Studbook Mare Championship demonstrates the breeding potential in our national herd. Using these mares as examples, HSI inspectors will provide an insight into the attributes desirable in Sport Horse broodmares which should help breeders benchmark their own mares. I encourage all those with an interest in breeding top quality animals to come along on the day to see the mares and hear the commentary.”
