Carlow’s Jason Foley and Lyonel D (NRPS) landed the 1.45m Grand Prix in Opglabbeek, Belgium, this afternoon.
Foley had an outstanding performance in round one with zero penalties and progressed to the jump-off alongside 12 other combinations.
In the second round, the pair held their nerve to come home quickest with a clear round in an impressive time score of 38.43 seconds, beating home pair Sacha Beghuin and Elcup van Beek II Z into second place.
France’s Guillaume Foutrier filled the podium on board Corneska de La Faize Z.
Foley had been selected for the prestigious European Young Riders Academy Team in 2020.
At the 2018 Longines FEI European Youth Championships in France, he was crowned European Under-18 (Junior) Show Jumping champion after a sensational performance on board the Irish Sport Horse Castlefield Vegas.
The result came just days after he was part of the GAIN Irish Under-18 team that won the European Championship bronze medal under manager James Kernan.
