Offaly’s Darragh Kenny secured a second big Wellington win in the space of a fortnight as Chic Chic landed the CSI4* $75,000 1.50m Classic on Sunday.
Kenny won the three-star Grand Prix a couple of weeks ago when Volnay Du Boisdeville won the $140,000 Southern Arches CSI3* Grand Prix during “Saturday Night Lights” and he was back on top of the podium again in the Classic.
It was first and fourth for Irish riders, with Aga Khan-winning rider Max Wachman also on form at the Florida venue as his mount Quintini was less than a second in arrears.
Kenny jumped clear in round one, finishing in a time of 75.12 seconds, and joined 11 others in a star-studded jump-off.
He kept his composure then to go double clear in a time of 37.59, just over two tenths of a second ahead of America’s Laura Kraut and Bisquetta, with the Irish Sport Horse FTS Killossery Konfusion in third under Jos Verlooy.
Wachman was also clear in the jump-off but finished with a time of 38.43 seconds.
