Lennon makes it a hat trick with another speed win at Dublin

AN in-form Dermott Lennon scored his third international win at the Discover Ireland Dublin Horse Show today (Sunday) when he squeezed narrowly past German contender Hans-Dieter Deher to pocket the 8,000 euro winner’s purse in the Speed Championship.
The 46 year-old former World Champion showed that he’d lost none of his verve when Dreher set the bar with Quiwi Dream at a seemingly unbeatable 64.96 seconds. Lennon and his own 13 year-old gelding Vampire, drawn to jump four places after Dreher, left all the poles standing and managed to shave a twentieth of a second off the German rider’s time.
The competition also saw the consistent Conor Swail and Viva Colombia place fifth, with Shane Breen and the gelding Reconnaissance close behind in sixth. Darragh Kenny and Picolo added another Irish name to the scoreboard with a seventh place finish.
Dermott Lennon had two wins with Vampire at the Dublin show, the other being in Thursday’s Speed Derby, while on Wednesday the Co. Down-born rider was victorious in the Irish Sports Council Classic aboard Judith Sossick’s Irish Sport Horse mare Loughview Lou Lou.
