Longines Grand Prix the feature on final day of Dublin Horse Show as Irish riders add two more wins

A double of wins for Irish riders on Saturday’s penultimate day at the 2019 Dublin Horse Show, brought Ireland’s tally of five-star international victories to six so far this week at the RDS.

A hugely impressive performance from Meath’s Elizabeth Power (pictured) and The Irish Sport Horse Doonaveeragh O One, saw them take a fantastic win in RDS Stakes by Theraplate Ireland. Despite being drawn early in the one round speed class, they put down a marker of clear in 57.41 seconds which proved unbeatable. Sweden’s Angelie Von Essen finished as runner-up with Tiger ahead of McLain Ward (USA) in third with Up Des Chaines. Louth’s Mark McAuley and Miebello took fourth place while Kilkenny’s Ger O’Neill and Castlefield Vegas (ISH) finished fifth.

In the later Longines Dublin Stakes 1m50, Mark McAuley claimed his second win of the week when he partnered Utchan De Belheme to the top prize after a 14 horse jump-off. Shane Breen and Golden Hawk finished fourth while Bertram Allen and Harley V Bisschop slotted into fifth place.

The Land Rover Puissance saw French rider Mathieu Billot and the 11-year-old gelding Dassler take the win when they were the only combination to clear the wall in the third round when it stood at 2m15 (7ft). A group of four riders – Richard Howley (Notis Me), Nano Healy (KMS Clintland (ISH), Michael Pender (Hearton Du Bois Halleaux) and Germany’s Alexander Kisselbach (Gannan), shared second place when all finishing with four faults in the final round.

The €350,000 Longines Grand Prix of Ireland will bring the 2019 Dublin Horse Show to a close this afternoon starting at 3pm. Other competitions up for grabs on the final day include the Speed Championship and finals for 4 and 5-year-old horses both sponsored by Horse Sport Ireland.
