IRELAND’S Denis Lynch and Abbervail van het Dingeshof scored a remarkable double at the four-star German show in Braunschweig today (Saturday) when they racked up their second major victory in 24 hours.
The Tipperary-born rider, currently ranked 23rd in the world, took first place with Thomas Straumann’s gelding in Friday night’s Grand Prix Qualifier, and then brought the 15 year-old horse out again for this afternoon’s big two round class.
Battling his way through a 44-strong international field, Lynch piloted Abbervail to a zero score in both rounds, and in the final round saw off a strong challenge from three German riders at the top of the table, finishing with a more than comfortable two seconds in hand over the fastest of the trio, Gerrit Schepers with Czerny N.
The Irish rider now adds a further 7,500 in prize money to the 8,750 euro he picked up for his first win at the show last night.
The Braunschweig Grand Prix takes place on Sunday afternoon.
