Lyndsay Graham and Graf Maypole (ISH) win HSI Eventing Mare Championships
- 14 September 2015, 15:52
The inaugural Horse Sport Ireland Eventing Mare Championships were held yesterday, Sunday 13th September, at Lisgarvan House in County Carlow. A prize fund of €15,000, including breeders prizes, were on offer from HSI for these Championships for 5 and 6 year old mares. The aim of the Championships is to identify, evaluate and reward owners of mares that are capable of performing at the highest level in eventing and are suitable for producing progeny that would be competitive in that discipline.
Twenty two mares lined out for Sunday’s competition, with ten five year olds and twelve six year olds taking part. Winning the Championship was Lindsay Graham with her father, Gilbert Graham’s, six year old mare Graf Maypole (ISH). The combination finished on their dressage score to take home the top prize of €4,500. Graf Maypole is by the Dutch stallion Metropole (KWPN) out of a Porsch (BWP) mare, Graf Phanton (ISH), who herself is a half-sister to the 4 star eventer, Graf Liberty (ISH). She was bred in County Down by Brian Livingstone, who received €600 as the breeder of the winning mare.
Finishing in second place was Emma Jackson with Cushlas Skyimp (ISH), taking home €2,000 in prize money and winning €400 for breeder William Donegan. In third place was Daenerys (ISH) and Heli Nannimainen who won €1,250, in addition to €200 for Jim Tempany who bred the mare.
As part of the Championships, €4,000 of the €15,000 prize fund has been retained by Horse Sport Ireland for breeding incentives. €1,000 is available to the top four mares in the Championships and will be awarded to their owners on registration of their first foals by a four star or five star stallion, an Approved Thoroughbred stallion or an Approved/Recognised or Preliminary Approved stallion with a breeding value greater than 140.
